WHO WE ARE

The Garden Hwy Community Association is a volunteer non-profit group and a community of individuals committed to stewardship of the land and river on both sides of Garden Hwy.

Once called the Nile of the West, the storied Sacramento River is part of the largest river system in the great State of California. Living along its banks, we have a strong love and enormous respect for the Sacramento River. The river is why we and Sacramento are here.

We live in a unique riparian corridor that is home to listed species such as the Swainson’s hawk and giant garter snake. We take seriously our role in preserving the natural beauty and environment of this Sacramento jewel and make every effort to protect it for generations to come.

Many of our residents also remember the floods of 1986 and 1997 and understand just how critical the levee system we live on is to protecting neighboring communities.

As residents on the levee, we are on the frontlines of high water events. With this responsibility, we aim to be true collaborative partners with local flood control agencies and community organizations on common sense flood control.
